Alvardag – DesignByLauri

Lauri Ylönen (also known as a singer of  Rasmus rock band) has designed houses in harmony with Finnish nature for Finnish celebrities Wirtanen Toni and Jannika B, a fishing house for actors Hissu and Tommi, a hidden bar for singer Mikko Kuustonen and a luxurious apartment for ice-hockey player Leino Ville. Alvardag’s goal is always to bring something natural to the design. Alvardag’s houses are built from nature-friendly materials with respect for the environment; raw surfaces can remain visible inside the home and large windows let in natural light. Streamlined shapes line the design of the house from large lines to small details. The streamlining is supported by the straight-edged UTS panel used on the facades which is great for vertical cladding. It was wanted to fasten the exterior cladding panels traditionally by nailing on top, so the chosen product was pre-painted exterior cladding panel, which is primed and once painted. The topcoat protects the wood during the construction phase but still requires one coat on site to ensure long-term durability. This provides effective protection for the wood over the first winter and the final painting can be done in the spring. Nail heads left on the surface of the wood should always be well protected so that moisture cannot damage the wood.
